We are delighted to have been selected by The Nightingale, with The Marlborough Theatre and Brighton Festival Fringe, to produce a performance adventure in one of the six bespoke Victorian-style bathing machines which will appear around Brighton during the Festival in May.

Grist to the Mill invite you to witness ‘Kissing the Gunner’s Daughter‘:

As the bounty-hunters hauled the bathing machine from the murky waters near Brighton’s West Pier their jubilation turned to disbelief when they peeped inside and saw the contents of the hut slowly and uncannily come to life…

Kissing the Gunner’s Daughter transforms the interior of the bathing hut into an otherworldly delight, where bathers, sailors, sea monsters and mermaids are exquisitely animated by lead artist Isobel Smith using manipulated light and puppetry along with a specially composed ‘poetic drama’ and soundscape from collaborators Dorothy Max Prior and Daniel Marcus.

Supported by funds from the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
