Isobel Smith, Artistic Director of Grist to the Mill, is a skilled puppeteer, artist and course leader, she studied Graphic Design and Illustration at Central Saint Martins (BA) and Fine Art at the University of Brighton (Post Grad. Dip) and is a graduate of the Green Ginger ‘Toastie’ scheme. (Featured in Animations Online 30)

‘Sisters of Hera’. A major commission in collaboration with Aurelius Productions for Associazione Culturale Dello Scompiglio, Italy. Comprising site responsive sculpture, installation, music, film, dance and performances in the theatre and throughout the site. April – Sept 2014.
‘Thinking it and Fainting’. An extraordinary visual theatre adventure with no spoken words, was developed with Arts Council funding during Grist to the Mill’s residency at Nuffield Theatre, Southampton. Premiered at London’s SUSPENSE Puppetry Festival, Oct 2013
‘Christina the Astonishing‘, a collaboration with The Baron Gilvan, combines puppetry and animation and was begun in Little Angel’s INCUBATE program, it was developed with Arts Council Funding. Premiered at London’s SUSPENSE Puppetry Festival, Oct 2013.
Grist to the Mill was Resident Puppet Company at The Nuffield Theatre, Southampton (2012-2013), a one year puppetry residency offered in collaboration with Puppet Centre, London.
